May I call you Michael?
Thank you for your heroic muckraking.
I and my beloved wife Karen saw your Fahrenheit 911 (Celsius
488) today, and
it is a golden poem.
George Walker Bush deserves a huge comeupance, and you have done that beautifully.
I was most touched by the man who said that when we kill another, we kill part of ourself.
We are all connected.
We exist as something greater than our individual selves.
I ask you: Is (re-)defeating Bush enough?
Like so many Americans, I feel powerless and angry and frustrated
when presented with the mere choice of who shall head
the great and inexorably growing behemoth
known as the Federal Government.
And this sacred choice of two is prepared and presented by
those two great creatures, at once parent and offspring of the Federal Government,
those two great branches of the one church,
the two established political parties in our country.
I ask you: Why not destroy the root of the problem?
Why not destroy the Ring of Power itself?
Why not Repeal the Constitution?
Why not return to a loose confederation of free, sovereign, and independent states?
The ratification of the U.S. Constitution in 1787-1788 was a
*counter-revolution*
completely contradictory to the principles of liberty set forth in Declaration
of Independence.
It was a raw grab for power.
The only mention of "liberty" in the Constitution
is in the preamble,
which was tacked on at the end of the Constitutional Convention
in an effort to make the bitter pill more palatable.
It worked.
As the years have passed and the ratchet of the Federal Government's
power
has slipped further and further on the Road to Serfdom,
it has become more and more clear that there is no power
which can not be justified by this Constitution.
Long ago, our people threw off the power and government of King George III.
Similarly we can throw off the power and government created by this Constitution.
We can Repeal the Constitution.
Repealing the Constitution returns our nation to being
a loose and voluntary confederation of free, sovereign and independent states.
All our state and local governments would remain intact.
And wouldn't it be better to see fifty approaches to solving the problems in our society than simply one?
Imagine the diversity and tolerance and creativity and innovation
and wonder
of 50 states independent and free.
Liberty is the true American heritage.
Let our 50 states set an example for the world of
how free and independent states can live together in peace and harmony.
Now is the time to root our law, our nation, our lives,
upon a simple and unequivocal statement of human liberty and human rights.
A short and simple set of rules for decent and honorable human behavior.
I worked for 18 months at a rural pre-school.
There I learned, with the children, THREE SIMPLE RULES:
| 1. No Weapons [which means: Don't initiate force.] 2. No Ganging Up [which means: any union is voluntary] 3. Stay in the Park [which means: respect borders and boundaries of others] |
We taught these children to live by these rules,
and they learned them, and understood them.
If this is possible with three-year-olds,
perhaps it is possible with adults,
perhaps it is possible with our 50 states.
I believe that these THREE SIMPLE RULES would be
an excellent replacement for our current Constitution.
Let's destroy the Ring of Power.
