Dear John,

Thank you for your recent letter on the Politics of Trust.  i was struck by your wish that we create "safer communities and a healthier state!"

how sad it is that the safety of our communities is now such an issue.  When i recently said goodbye to a friend who was leaving for New York City, i thought sadly of how her safety is now in question.  Let us pray that we can find our way toward peace.

...a healthier state...  Yes!  an amazing reformed healthier state.

how does power flow in this new state -- does it flow from the top down, or from the bottom up?

imagine power flowing upward.  From the individual to the community to higher levels of government.

How we get from here to there is an organic process -- let's start by reforming our federal government with the Organic Rebirth of American Communities Amendment to the U.S. Constitution:

Congress Shall Make No Law.
All Federal Activities Shall Be Private.
These United States Are And Of Right Ought To Be Free And Independent States.

Then we will have the instructive process of the 51 states learning to peacefully co-exist, *and* each of these states will find its own answer to how communities work together.  Surely some innovative solutions to our problems will be discovered!

imagine shifting our focus from Washington D.C. to Sacramento...
imagine California taking its place on the world stage...
imagine a peaceful foreign policy from the states...

i believe that self-esteem walks hand in hand with self-government and responsibility.

and, personally, i think that 51 answers are better than one.

Two centuries ago, the Anti-Federalists warned that our constitution would lead to a large, powerful and self-interested federal government.  As i watch current events unfold, i believe more and more that we would all be well served by questioning whether we Americans and the peoples of the world are being served by our current federal government or not.

John, you are a man of action.  Would you consider proposing the Organic Rebirth of American Communities Amendment in the California Legislature?

imagine California leading the way toward safer communities and a healthier state!

Thank you for listening.  i send my love and best wishes to all.
